In 3 steps
- Open your PDFDrop it on the Rature page or click “Choose a file”. It opens in your browser: nothing is uploaded.
- Click “OCR”In the toolbar. Rature reads every scanned page at once. The first time, the reading engine downloads in a few seconds, then it stays on your device.
- Fix and downloadClick a line to rewrite it, in a font close to the original, then download.
What OCR lets you do
Fix a date, a name or an amount on a scanned document; search for a word across the document; copy the text or export it to Word. The downloaded PDF becomes searchable too.
For a good result
A sharp, straight scan gives the best results. For a sheet taken as a photo, use “Scan”: the sheet is straightened and contrasted before reading.
It all happens on your device
Text recognition runs in your browser: your documents are never sent to an online service. Once the engine is downloaded, it even works offline.
Questions
Which languages are recognised?
English and French, accents included.
What about handwriting?
It is poorly recognised: OCR is made for printed text.
How long does it take?
A few seconds per page on a recent computer, a little more on a phone.
Is it really free?
Yes: no sign-up, no document limit, and no watermark added.
