Why a plain black box is risky
A box drawn on top in a drawing or word-processing app hides the text on screen, but the text often stays in the file: it can be selected, copied or found with a search. Rature really removes what’s under the box.
Automatic redaction
“More tools”, then “Automatic redaction” finds emails, phone numbers, IBANs, social security and card numbers in the text. You tick what must go, Rature places the boxes.
For which documents?
Bank statements, tax notices, payslips, attachments to an application, documents shared online: anything you want to send without revealing everything.
Questions
Can redacted text be recovered?
No: it is removed from the downloaded file, not just covered. Keep the original if you still need it.
Does it work on a scanned PDF?
Yes: the part of the image covered by the box is erased too.
Is my document sent over the Internet?
No. Everything happens in your browser: the file never leaves your device, and Rature even works offline once opened.
Is it really free?
